The DAAD Information Center Riga is happy to share the information about current scholarship deadlines and events regarding Germany, especially in the academic field.
On October 9, 2017, the DAAD invites to an "Academic Octoberfest" in Tartu - starting at 4 p.m. in Loodusmaja. Exciting guest lectures, e.g. on renewable energies and a comment on the results of the German elections on September 24, will be sided by reports of experiences with scholarships and academic cooperation with Germany. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Everybody is welcome - further information will follow soon on our Homepage and on Facebook page!
Days of the German Language in Latvia and Lithuania
For the first time in Latvia, the German Language Days will take place from October 17 to 19. If you are interested in participating with your organisation, please read further information and submit your application until September 29: www.vacudienas.lv

Guest Lecture on Multilingualism and the German Language in the Baltic States
On October 20 at 1.30 p.m., the Director of the DAAD IC Riga, Heiko F. Marten will give a lecture on "German in the Balitc states: which functions and perspectives?". It will part of the workshop "Multilingualism and threatened languages in the Baltic region" organized by Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas on October 20 - 21. DAAD Scholarship Deadlines
The deadlines for the DAAD scholarships for the year 2018 have been announced - the cutoff dates are at different points throughout autumn 2017. If you follow the link of your scholarship of choice, you can register on the DAAD website and submit the application. More detailed information is also available on www.funding-guide.de. RISE worldwide 2018 (Internships in Science and Engineering)
For the summer of 2018, the DAAD introduces the RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) worldwide programme. The programme provides undergraduate students of natural sciences or engineering at universities in Germany the opportunity to take part in an internship funded by the DAAD, at research institutions around the world.
Research groups, laboratories and PhD students interested in hosting a well-trained and motivated intern for 6 weeks to 3 months can register on the RISE website, and submit their offer to the RISE databank until October 15.
Other Scholarship Deadlines
October 16, 2017 for applications for the project competition of the Baltic-German University Liaison Office. The project implementation period has to be between 01/03/2018 until 30/11/2018. Supported projects promote the scientific cooperation between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on the one hand, and Germany on the other, as well as cooperation between the Baltic states. The projects can represent any academic discipline and may be carried out in different forms, e.g. seminars and guest lectures, research projects, conferences, or publications. More information
December 15, 2017 for the Study Foundation of the Berlin city parliament for the academic year 2018 / 2019. The grant is for graduated and doctoral students of all fields from France, Great Britain, the USA and the successor states of the former Soviet Union (i.e. including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) who wish to conduct research at institutions in Berlin. Das Baltisch-Deutsche Hochschulkontor
On October 2, Prof. Dr. Jochen Strobel will hold a speech concerning "Digital Humanities - die Zukunft der Literaturwissenschaft?" in the library of the university of Latvia starting vom 6 p.m.
On October 19, the Alumniportal Deutschland is holding a language café. The goal is to improve the network between the alumni and give the opportunity to polish their German skills.
The language café will take place at 7 PM at Mansards Nice Place, Barona iela 21 in Riga. If you have any further questions, you can write to Maija Kale, contact person for the Alumniportal Deutschland in Latvia.
