Экзамен (предварительная дата 04.02.2022) будет проходить онлайн в зуме. Экзамен будет письменным, в виде тестовых заданий.

Чтобы лучше подготовиться, рекомендую проходить тестовые задания для самопроверки по каждой теме (линки есть в мудле). Во время экзамена можно использовать любые материалы. 

К экзамену допущены все студенты. 

Introduction to Political science (HR)

Course Title: Introduction to Political Science

ECTS credits:  6

The aim of the course unit: 

The goal of the introductory course in political science is to introduce a student to the study of politics and the “political” from the perspective of the discipline. During the course, a student will explore some fundamental concepts and themes that arise in analysing political power, choice, and ideology. Also, the student will engage with an understanding of the modern state, political participation, and democratization, as well as public policy, governance, and international relations. Particular attention will be devoted to the application of knowledge gained in practice, as well as familiarization with examples from modern politics. Students will get the opportunity to approach scientific literature and political studies and reviews analytically and critically on the topic. Specifically, the course aims to teach a student to read, write, converse, and think about politics systematically.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows: 

  • To develop an understanding of a variety of concepts and approaches to the study of political science and its various subfields.
  • Critically analyse contemporary problems in the countries considering the conceptual frameworks presented in class. 
  • Identify major political forces, institutions, and theories that reflect and shape political behaviour and public policy choices.
  • To demonstrate critical reading and thinking skills, including the ability to evaluate and form an argument in conducting research and/or engaging in discussions.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of important social and ethical questions through the lens of politics.

Course name: Political Institutions

Number of credits: 6 (ECTS)

Participation Prerequisites: Political Institutions course is a continuation of the Introduction to Political Science course.

The goal of the course is to further develop students' knowledge of world politics and skills in working with that knowledge in order to assist them in decision-making in social and political life, thereby better positioning them to be more active members of civic and public life in the long term.

Expected Outcomes: following the course students should:
– be prepared to discuss lucidly basic theories of studying political institutions;
– have a general understanding of the structure and role political institutions play in society;
– be able to compare and contrast political institutions in European countries.

The course syllabus includes the following topics:

Course Methodology:
Students will be evaluated on four criteria:
– Lecture attendance (20% of the overall total)
– Individual and group work during seminars (30% of the overall total)
– Essays: Topics will be chosen and distributed to students as mid-year and final papers. Essays must be no less than 1000 words and no more than 1500 words and must adhere to academic standards and norms for overall quality, citations, etc. (30% of the overall total)
– Exam: Students will be required to address two questions in English in written form (20% of the overall grade)

Status: This course is obligatory for students of the Bachelor programme World Politics and Economy Studies
