This course presents the structure and function of the global art market. Students will learn the origin and history of the commerce in art and design goods. They will come to understand a taxonomy for the different sectors of the trade, including: primary and secondary market galleries, auction houses, art fairs, as well as antiques and collectables. The course will cover a range of professional activities and issues relevant to careers in the art market, including art advising, conservation, authentication and connoisseurship, cultural heritage compliance, and transportation and customs.
