The course discusses masculinity as a social construct and investigates the engagement of masculinity with various social institutions and categories. The course presents the main approaches to and theoretical perspectives of critical men’s studies: it examines the relationship between masculinity, gender inequality, sexuality, race, nationalism, and the main social institutions such as family, media, economy, state and more. The course intents to enhance students' ability to apply theories of critical men’s studies to the research on gender, society and culture.
