The course is devoted to the complicated issues of ethnic relations and migration politics. Students will learn about major developments of the nation-state and its explanations, national and ethnic minorities problems, multiculturalism in the modern world, the basics of migration phenomena, its reasons and outcomes, and attempts to solve it in political agenda of different countries. One of the specific focus is case study analysis of situation with multiculturalism and migration in particular states of Old Europe and North America, but also in the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Participations’ prerequisites. The students should:

  • Pass the courses on political institutions and world politics
  • Have general knowledge on political concepts and ideas, to know the main characteristics of political systems and regimes;
  • Have certain skills in case studies;
  • To be able to study individually as well as in groups;
  • To have knowledge of English sufficient for completion of oral and written tasks, as well as reading primary sources.

The goal of the course is to introduce the students with the major concepts and political problems of national and ethnic relations, and migration in the contemporary world.

In the sphere of special abilities:

·  To understand intercultural differences, particularly related to values, perceptions and behaviour differences in respect of race, ethnicity, religion, and gender.

·  To be able to analyse and to assess the peculiarities of optimisation of individual’s and organisations’ performance indicators and decision-making in different economic systems and markets, the importance of the national macro-economic environment and rapid global economic changes and their impact on the activities of enterprises and organisations.

  • Activities within online classes – 30%
  • Written assignments (essay and presentation) – 40%
  • Exam – 30%.
