Short annotation

The course focuses on cultural heritage actualisation as an activity aimed at integrating cultural heritage into cultural and socio-economic development of the territory by activating the sociocultural role of heritage objects and their interpretation. Cultural heritage actualisation is a complex process that occurs both in institutional (e.g. museum activities) and non-institutional forms (e.g. various leisure and tourism activities). Students will become familiar with the main directions and mechanisms of cultural heritage actualisation, examples of successful practices, and will acquire the skills to develop their own creative projects dealing with cultural heritage actualisation.

Participation prerequisites

This course is intended for students who have previously studied the course “Theory of Cultural Heritage I”.

Aims of the course

To acquire knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and methodological foundations of cultural heritage actualisation, and to develop the skills for creating projects in the field of cultural heritage actualisation.

The ability to use knowledge about heritage in practical professional activities (management, social, cultural and business initiatives, education, leisure, preservation and circulation of heritage artifacts).

The ability to use knowledge about heritage in developing the concept of a project aimed at solving a current problem related to the actualisation of cultural heritage in a certain area and addressed to a specific audience.

Acquaintance with the best practices in working with heritage and monitoring such experience in different areas (cultural and creative industries, museum practice, memorable places and cultural landscapes, events and activities, etc.).

Acquaintance with the best practices of cultural heritage actualisation, including familiarity with the practices of heritage actualisation in tourism and recreational activities, as well as the possibilities of using digital technologies as a means of heritage actualisation.

Understanding the role and significance of the politics of memory in the process of accessing heritage.

Ability to conduct research for new products created using the potential of heritage: formulate goals and objectives, use appropriate research methods, analyze data, present and discuss practical solutions to problematic issues based on research results, draw independent and rationally justified conclusions and generalizations when preparing projects related to cultural heritage actualisation.

Understanding the processes of managing the development of populated areas and territories, taking into account the priority of heritage preservation and its use on a sustainable basis.

  5. Information and communication technologies as a means of cultural heritage actualisation
  6. Development and presentation of a creative project concerning cultural heritage actualisation

Distribution of workload for students

  • 32 hours – contact hours (lectures and seminars);
  • 128 hours – individual work.

Creative project of cultural heritage actualisation (museum / virtual museum / excursion (thematic/theatrical /digital), exhibition / theatrical performance, etc.
