Events with DAAD participation

Annual Meeting of the Lithuanian Association of Teachers of German, April 6 in Vilnius
"Intelligent Teaching and Learning" is the title of this year's annual meeting of the Lithuanian Association of Teachers of German. It will take place on April 6 at the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University (Universiteto 3). The programme can be viewed on the website of the Lithuanian Association of Teachers of German. The DAAD will participate with information lectures on studying in Germany.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Falling Walls Vilnius, May 16 and Falling Walls Riga, June 5
Falling Walls Lab is an international forum for the next generation of outstanding innovators and creative thinkers. The aim is to promote extraordinary ideas and to connect promising scientists from all areas of the world. Lab participants will have the opportunity to present their research work, business model or initiative to a panel of experts - in 3 minutes each.
The winners of the Falling Wall Lab Riga and the Falling Walls Lab Vilnius will be invited to the Lab Final in Berlin on November 8th. The Latvian and Lithuanian winners will once again present their ideas on the big stage of the Falling Walls Conference. The event language is English. 
  • Who can apply? Bachelor students, Master students, doctoral candidates, post-docs, young entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs of any discipline who are from or live anywhere in Latvia or Lithuania.
  • How does the application work? The application documents (CV, letter of motivation) are submitted online at falling-walls.com/lab/apply
  • When do I have to submit the application? Application deadline for Lithuania (Vilnius) is April 23, application deadline for Latvia (Riga) is May 13.

DAAD Scholarship Announcements

Research Grants - Short Term Grants for foreign doctoral candidates, young academics and scientists
The DAAD funds research projects or the participation in courses of continuing education at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany, which is being carried out in coordination with an academic adviser in Germany. Funding is available for a period between one and a maximum of six months. Further information as well as application documents can be found here (Estonia), here (Latvia), and here (Lithuania). Applications can be submitted until April 30th.
 
Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists
The DAAD funds research stays at state or state-recognised institutions of higher education or non-university research institutes in Germany. A research stay can also take place at several host institutions. Applicants should be University teachers or other established academics. Usually, they should have completed a doctoral degree and work at a university or research institute in their home country.  Funds are awarded for stays between one and three months; funding may only be claimed once within three years. Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders
To maintain contact with Germany, former DAAD Research Grant or Study Scholarship holders with funding for more than six months and former DDR (East German) Scholarship holders who studied in Germany for at least one year can apply for a re-invitation. Funding is available for research and work projects at a state or state-recognised (public) university or a non-university research institution. Former graduates working outside academia can also apply for funding to cover a working stay at an institution in business or industry, administration, culture or media. The stay may last between one to three months. Further information as well as application documents can be found here (Estonia), here (Latvia), and here (Lithuania). Study Visits by Groups of Foreign Students
Academic staff at universities in the Baltic states can apply to the DAAD for the funding of study trips and study internships for groups of their students until May 1. A "study visit" is the visit of two or more German higher education institutions. A "study internship" is the visit of only one German higher education institution. The objectives of a study trip are to provide participants with a subject-specific knowledge by organising visits to at least two universities, subject-related tours and informative discussions in the field of higher education (study trips) or participation in specialist courses, block seminars, workshops at the invitation of the partner university (study internships). The stay in Germany may take place after 1st of September 2019. Applications for study trips after March 1, 2020 are possible until November 1st. More information can be found here

Other scholarships and announcements

Scholarship for an internship in the Parliament of Latvia
Similiarly to the International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Parliament, also the Latvian Parliament (Saeima) offers scholarships for German Graduates for internships at the Saeima from September 02-27, 2019. Please send your application to ic@daad.lv until 31.03.2019. Further information is available on the website of the Latvian Embassy in Germany.

PhD positions at the Hector Fellow Academy
Each year, the Hector Fellow Academy sponsors several doctoral positions in the fields of MINT, medicine and psychology. Doctoral candidates will benefit from the experience and outstanding expertise of their supervisors while working on building their research networks. It is possible to apply with an independent project or to apply for an announced position. Applications for announced positions can be submitted until March, 31. More information can be found on the website of the Hector Fellow Academy.

Fraunhofer research grants for post-docs
The grant »Fraunhofer Attract« offers outstanding external scientists the opportunity to develop their ideas within one of the well-equipped Fraunhofer institutes, operating close to market needs. The scientists will be offered a budget of 2.5 Million Euro over 5 years to lead a group of 3-5 co-workers. Applications are possible until April 9. Further information is available here.
