Below please find the information about numerous DAAD events, research and scholarships at universities all over the Baltic states. 

DAAD Scholarships

Study Scholarships for Graduates in the Fields of Fine Art, Design, Visual Communication and Film

An application for study scholarships in the artistic and creative field is possible until November 30thA master programme or complementary course in the subjects Visual Arts, Design, Visual Communication and Film is funded with a monthly scholarship payment of 850 € (+ grants) for 10-24 months. In addition to the usual application documents (curriculum vitae, motivation letter ...), the applicants should submit work samples. Further information and access to the application portal can be found here.

University Summer Course Scholarships
Applications for scholarships for participating in a summer school at a university in Germany in summer 2019 can be submitted until December 1, 2018. The scholarships supports participation in a summer school to deepen German language skills, general cultural knowledge about Germany, or a more topic-focused course in one of various academic fields. A list of courses can be found here. Scholarship holders receive a one-time payment of € 950 plus a travel allowance (€ 425 for Estonia, € 300 for Latvia / Lithuania). The scholarship is available to students enrolled in at least the second year of a Bachelor's programme or in a Master's programme. Language skills in German of at least A2 are a requirement. If you are unsure if this applies to you, feel free to contact us. If you do not have a language certificate, you can take an onSET test free of charge in Riga, Tallinn or Vilnius. The dates can be found below in this newsletter. Further information as well as the link to the application portal can be found here.

onSET dates
You can check and classify your German skills with an onSET-Test, which we offer free of charge in all three Baltic states. When applying for a scholarship from the DAAD, the onSET test is considered a language certificate. The test can be taken in:
  • Riga on November 29 at 5 pm, Kalnciema iela 6, room 402. Please contact Ieva Dzelme (ic@daad.lv or +371 67228800) if you would like to take the test in Riga.
  • Tallinn on November 26, 2:15 pm in room S-338 of Tallinn University.
  • For onSET tests Vilnius, please contact our local DAAD lecturer at Vilnius University, Dr. Alexander Mionskowski (a.mionskowski@daad.lt).

Webinar on the scholarship application
On the occasion of the upcoming application deadlines, we, the IC Riga, offer a webinar on November 27th from 3 to 4 pm. Participants receive information and tips on their application documents and can make personal inquiries. This link takes you to the digital meeting room where the webinar will take place. The webinar will be held in English.


Other announcements and events

Leo Baeck Fellowship for doctoral students in the field of history and culture of Central European Jewry

The Studienstiftung and the Leo Baeck Institute London award up to 12 scholarships to doctoral candidates from all disciplines and geographical areas whose projects are related to German-speaking Jewry. The fellows will remain in their home countries, but will come together during the funding period from October 2019 to September 2020 for two workshops. A scholarship payment of € 1350 is made monthly, plus a monthly research fee of € 100. Application requirements are a university degree significantly better than average not earlier than February 2015 and the admission to doctoral studies in the field of history and culture of Central European Jewry. Application deadline is February 1, 2019

Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives
The Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives offers scholarships for the academic year 2019-20 to graduates and doctoral candidates of all fields. Applicants should work on projects that requires access to research facilities in Berlin. The application deadline is December 15, 2018. For further information and the application form click here.

Work contracts with the German Baltic Studienstiftung (DBJW)
The German Baltic Studienstiftung, which emerged from the study grant of the German-Baltic cultural work, awards scholarships to students and promotes research and
 reappraisal of the common history of Germany and the Baltic states. Through congresses, seminars and summer courses, the foundation intends to develop into a German-Baltic Youth Organization ("DBJW") based on the model of the Franco-German Youth Office. By promoting the Foreign Office on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag, the DBJW can expand its work and therefore seeks active people who want to support the foundation by means of work contracts. The job postings can be found on http://www.dbjw.de/ under the menu item 'Über uns'.

Scientific Conference of German Studies Students in Vilnius
The Department of German Philology at the University Vilnius invites you to the "2019 Academic Conference of Students of German Philology: Language and Literature", which will take place on April 26. Speakers should register by February 15, 2019 and send an abstract of approximately 140-160 words to Studentenentagung.VU.2019@gmail.com by March 15. Further information can be found in the announcement in the attachment.
